Backend Developer
Prognosis Biotech, a dynamic and growing biotechnology company, is seeking a motivated and technically skilled Backend Developer to join our technical team in Thessaloniki, Greece.
the role
As a Backend Developer, you will play a key role in transforming our legacy LabVIEW-based system into a modern desktop application using JavaScript/TypeScript. You will work closely with software engineers, hardware specialists, and product owners to deliver a next-generation lab tool for diagnostic testing and data analysis.
Responsibilities
Redesign and modularize existing LabVIEW system using JavaScript/TypeScript (Node.js).
Contribute to backend development of a desktop app (Electron or similar frameworks).
Develop hardware communication protocols (USB/RS232/Bluetooth).
- Integrate image analysis workflows using OpenCV or external Python/C++ modules.
Design local REST APIs for communication between desktop, mobile, and cloud platforms.
Manage local data persistence (SQLite) and structured exports (JSON, CSV, PDF).
Implement authentication and session management (cookies, JWT) with offline support.
Package the app for Windows (future support for macOS/Linux).
Collaborate with QA, hardware, and frontend teams.
REQUIREMENTS
- 3+ years of experience with Node.js and TypeScript in backend or data-intensive applications.
- Experience with desktop applications (Electron, Tauri, etc.).
- Knowledge of image processing workflows (OpenCV.js, Python/C++ modules).
- Proficiency in local databases (e.g., SQLite) and REST API design.
- Familiarity with Git and version control best practices.
- Strong collaboration skills and fluency in English (written & spoken).
WE WILL APPRECIATE IT IF YOU HAVE:
Experience with Bluetooth or serial communication in Node.js.
Understanding of real-time technologies (Socket.IO, WebSocket).
Experience integrating native Python/C++ modules into JS environments.
Previous experience in medical or laboratory applications.
Familiarity with regulated environments.
